BIOGRAPHY

Born on May 14, 1988 in Genova (Italy), Canepa started his motorbike career at the age of 11 riding on minibikes. Just 3 years later he was already competing on 600cc-bike in Superstock. The first success came in 2006 when Niccolo finished the European Superstock Championship in 2nd place, even if he had to miss final races due to injury. That strong performance gave him a spot in FIM Superstock Championship and he won the title already at the first attempt. After spending 2008 as a test rider for Ducati in WSBK and competing in two races with wild cards, in 2009 Canepa got his first contract for starts in MotoGP. Riding in Pramac Ducati, Italian rider scored points on some occasions, with his best results being 8th place at Donington Park. After a though 2010 in Moto2, Niccolo has decided to move to CIV Superstock and FIM Superstock 1000. In the next years he was competing in Superbikes, Superstock 1000 and CIV STK series, coring multiple podiums and TOP 10 finishes. In 2016 Canepa started a new chapter in his career, moving on to endurance races riding a Yamaha. In 2016/2017 season he firstly won the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans and then became a FIM World Endurance champion – both with the team and as a rider. He has two more medals from FIM EWC, both for 2nd places at the end of the seasons – firstly in 2016 and then in 2017/2018. This year Canepa continues to ride with Yamaha in FIM WEC – his YART team started the season 2018/2019 from 2nd place in Bol d’Or – and also begins the new chapter with competing in MotoE for LCR E-Team.
