Randy de Puniet was born on February 14, 1981 in Maissons Laffitte (France) and quickly started to ride on different types of bikes. After some successful rides on motocross in his early years, he decided to move to the road tracks. At the age of just 16 he became French Champion in 125cc class, repeating that success a year later. That opened him the doors to World Championship – after a wild card appearance in French GP in 1998, he joined the 125cc class with a full-time ride in 1999. Randy’s two most successful seasons in smaller classes came back in 2003 and 2004 when he was competing in LCR squad in 250cc – scoring 4 wins and 17 podiums together – and finishing the 2004 season as the 3rd best rider. De Puniet moved to MotoGP category in 2006 with Kawasaki, scoring his first podium in the following year. In 2008 he reunited with LCR Team, spending there 3 years aboard Honda RC213V. He finished in TOP 10 on multiple occasions and also scored a podium finish at Donington Park in 2009. After a year with Pramac Ducati, he has started a development work – firstly for 2 seasons in Aspar team, developing the Aprilia powered CRT bike, then helping Suzuki with their comeback to MotoGP and improving their performance in World Superbikes. He also appeared on several occasions in World Endurance races – finishing on the podium in Suzuka 8 Hours twice and in the Bol d’Or. In 2019 he starts a new chapter as a rider for LCR E-Team and also a MotoGP commentator for Canal+.
