MISANO MOTOE RACE ONE SUCCESSFUL FOR LCR E-TEAM
The first MotoE race of the San Marino weekend took place this afternoon at the Misano World Circuit. The race was 7 laps and saw no shortage of thrill, with lots of battles and some crashes through the field. This was the first MotoE race held in dry conditions, as the previous races in Germany and Austria both ran on a wet track.
LCR E-Team rider Niccolò Canepa started from his season’s best position of 5th on the grid and felt confident for the race in front of his home crowd. Meanwhile, Randy de Puniet was 14th on the grid but keen to improve his feeling on the bike and gain confidence through the race in order to finish in a higher position.
Niccolò Canepa remained in the top positions throughout the race, fighting with several riders to end up finishing in 5th, the same position he started the race from. He rode well to avoid crashes around him and complete a fantastic top 5 result. Randy de Puniet improved from his qualifying position, finishing the race just outside the top 10 in 11th. Just like Niccolò, he rode sensibly to avoid drama, finish the race and get some points.
Now the team and the riders are focused on race 2, which will take place at 10:05am local time tomorrow, hoping to achieve an even better result!
Niccolò Canepa – 5th;
“I’m really happy about the race result, we needed a good result after yesterday’s qualifying. We are improving in every race, now we are in the top 5 and close to the leaders. I’m really happy that we are working in the correct direction and I want to stay focused for race 2 tomorrow and try to do my best.”
Randy De Puniet – 11th;
“Again, it was a difficult race for me because I didn’t get the feeling that I want when riding the bike. I don’t know how to find a solution. I was behind two other riders for three laps but I was already on the limit, so I decided to slow down to finish the race. We will see what happens tomorrow, but I really need to find something. It’s more on my side but I don’t know where, so we will try to improve tomorrow. The team is doing a great job to support me.”
